It seems from Solstice's Twitter page and Facebook that some events are coming up soon. This Friday, one of their GMs is challenging players to answer some questions to see if they master the game. Those who answer correctly get rewarded. Maybe I should go since Solstice is one of my top games. Anyone else play the game? You can download the client here.

The latest craze in CoX is IOing out your characters. What does that mean? Well for you non-CoXers, Invention Origin Enhancements, IOs, are enhancements that you create yourself. The game started with pre-made enhancements, Training, Dual Origin and Single Origin but let the players up the stakes with IOs. IOs do not lose effectiveness as you gain levels and they are generally more effective, percentage-wise, than Single Origins, SOs.
Then there are IO sets. Specially named sets of IOs for specific types of powers. If 2 or more IOs from the same set are used in the same power, you get a bonus. Bonuses can be as small as a resistance to immobilzation and as big a global increase in accuracy or reduction in recharge times [global meaning all of your attacks are affected].
So IOing out your character basically consists of picking the right sets for your powers to maximize the bonuses you can get. For example, say you want to hit the defensive shield cap but cannot do it with SOs or even regular IOs. Well you would do some research to find out which sets give a defense bonus and use those sets. I'm not sure I'm explaining this well but it makes sense in my head so if you really want to know what I'm talking about check out this page on Paragonwiki and I'll get to my point.
You can choose to pick up the ingredients to make these IOs from defeated foes or you can buy the ingredients, recipes, or even already crafted IOs at Wentworth's Fine Cosignments, CoX's version of an Auction House. I am impatient so I bought everything right away. Some people can work the market really well. They bid low and wait and eventually get what they want. I don't like waiting. So I bid further and further up until I get what I want. Doing that has the potential to cost you some serious green... and it did.
I recently decided I wanted to IO out my namesake, Frost's Bite. I'm not good with all the IO stuff so I got help making a build (Thank you, Sparky) and got to it. I spent over a BILLION influence on this character. I hear people say 5-8 hundred thousand inf all of the time but i went far and beyond that simply because I was impatient. Some of the IOs were over 100million inf! I saved up and saved up and transfered all my money from my other toons to Frosty thinking i would have more than enough. Well I'm broke.
But it was damn worth it.
I stand up against mean mofos now and they don't scare me like they used to. FYI, Frosty is a Blaster, a squishy. I've never had any problems soloing because I've learned to play smart on her but now I can kick ass with less concern for my health. I'm lovin it.
Now I just have to get back to playing to earn back all of the influence so I can IO out my next character.
